HAZARD IDENTIFICATION, RISK ASSESMENT AND CONTROL PROCEDURE

  1. Purpose

In Baseball there are many hazards, which could present a risk to health and safety of players, spectators, Officials as well as the public. These hazards should not be ignored.

This procedure provides guidance to assist in assessing which hazards could present an acceptable risk and which hazards need more safety controls.

  1. Scope

This procedure covers tasks performed by personnel and applies to all training and games.

  1. Responsibilities

The Manager is to assess the risk for all tasks performed using the Identification of Risk Form (form 18.1) and decides which tasks requires a Safe Work Method Statement to be produced.

The Manager is to inform the club which tasks need a Safe Work Method Statements produced.

The Club will inform the Manager if a Safe Work Method Statement already exists.

The Manager will check the Safe Work Method Statement to see if reduces or eliminates the risk identified.

The Coach is to familiarise himself with the risk assessment and monitor the task to ensure that the safety controls are implemented.

The Club are to maintain a register of Safe Work Method Statements.

  1. Procedure

Managers will need to look at each task at the game and training and complete an Identification of Risk Form (form 18.1). This will assist the Managers in discovering all the hazards & then decide how important each hazard is. Once this has been done, do something about each hazard in order of importance. The Coach is to monitor the work to ensure the hazard reduction systems are being adhered to.

To assist Managers and Coaches to achieve this they should work through the Clubs OHS Coordinator.

Once all hazards are documented on the Hazards Record Sheet (form 18.2), then the controls should be implemented.

At the completion of the work the Hazards Record Sheet (form 18.2) is to be sent to the club for record.
